New Registrar for UK Public Health Register

UKPHR is pleased to announce that its new Registrar with effect from April 2017 is Professor Zafar Iqbal. He succeeds Professor Anne McMillan as UKPHR’s Registrar.

Professor Iqbal is the Deputy Director of Public Health at Stoke on Trent City Council and an elected Assistant Registrar of the UK Faculty of Public Health. He brings to the post of UKPHR’s Registrar great knowledge and experience of current public health practice in the UK.

Chief Executive David Kidney welcomes what he says is a very strong appointment:

“in its 14-year history to date, UKPHR has been fortunate always to have benefited from Registrars who have had a very steady hand on the tiller steering the development of the register and its registration services. Zafar Iqbal is the latest in this line of beneficial influences and we are delighted that someone so distinguished, and so busy in the practice of public health, has been willing to join us. We are grateful to Zafar’s employer, Stoke on Trent City Council, for agreeing that Zafar may give the time needed to be devoted to his Registrar duties with UKPHR.”

The post of Registrar of the UK Public Health Register is unremunerated, although all expenses incurred in carrying out the duties of Registrar will be reimbursed. The appointment of Professor Iqbal by UKPHR’s Board was effective from 01 April. The Registrar has independence from the Board in all matters relating to registration services and is entitled to attend and speak at all Board meetings.
