David Evans
David is Professor in Health Services Research at the University of the West of England. His interests focus on public health leadership, public health workforce development, the history of public health and public involvement in public health. David teaches on the UWE MSc Public Health and leads the module Leadership for Public Health.
David is also currently leading the public health workforce theme in the Public Health and Wellbeing Research Group at UWE. Previously he led People in Health West of England, a collaborative initiative on public involvement in research with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC West), the West of England Academic Health Science Network, the Clinical Research Network West of England and Bristol Health Partners (http://www.phwe.org.uk/). He was principal investigator on a study on public involvement in research for the NIHR Health Services & Delivery Research programme. He previously led the national evaluation of patient advice and liaison services for the Policy Research Programme.
David is on the editorial board of Critical Public Health (www.tandfonline.com/loi/ccph20) and Research, Involvement and Engagement (https://researchinvolvement.biomedcentral.com/).
Prior to joining UWE Bristol, David was one of the first English directors of public health from a background other than medicine. In the late 1990s and early 2000s he was part of the movement to develop public health in the UK as a multidisciplinary profession.
