Professor Richard Parish is a Chartered Biologist by background with postgraduate qualifications in public health, education, and policy implementation. Richard was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the American Public Health Association in 2007 and last year was made a Foundation Fellow of the newly established national Institute of Health Visiting. He is also a Fellow of the Biological Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health. He is currently Chief Executive of the Royal Society for Public Health and the Institute of Healthcare Management from which he will step down in June this year. Richard holds Board positions at the International Union for Health Promotion and Education, the University of Bedfordshire, and the UK Public Health Register. In addition to his active academic involvement with Staffordshire University and UCL, he also sits on the Professorial Board at Anglia Ruskin University. He has been a University Dean and NHS Chief Executive and now Chairs the national Pharmacy and Public Health Forum at the request of Ministers. He has worked locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, including contributing regularly as a Consultant to WHO and other UN bodies. Later this year he will act as Chief Rapporteur for the World Conference on Health Promotion hosted in Thailand. Richard’s main interest is in the effective translation of policy into practice.
